Amazon’s AWS Honeycode app-building software is reportedly being phased out as the company focuses on its core cloud infrastructure offerings. The business application team at Amazon has faced challenges, and the company is currently engaged in a cost-cutting campaign. Honeycode, a cloud-based app-building service launched in 2020, was Amazon’s response to “low-code” development. However, it appears that Amazon is now providing minimal support for Honeycode, with no active promotions or sales activities for the app. Other AWS business applications, such as WorkDocs and WorkMail, are also facing similar situations. Honeycode is still in beta, and the internal product page hasn’t been updated in the past five months. This situation reflects broader challenges faced by Amazon in the business application space, as the company has struggled to find success with competing products for services like Dropbox, Slack, and Tableau. Despite these challenges, Amazon continues to invest in both its own applications and popular services hosted on AWS by partners. Honeycode was initially a high-profile project at Amazon, but there have been rumors about its phase-out since 2021. Adam Seligman, formerly Mozilla’s chief operating officer, replaced Adam Bosworth as the head of the Honeycode team. Seligman has since taken on a different role within the new generative AI team at AWS.
