Amazon.com is set to reduce its workforce in its healthcare units, according to a letter sent by Amazon Healthcare Services executive Neil Lindsay to employees. The job cuts are expected to affect approximately 115 positions at One Medical and Amazon Pharmacy, with estimates suggesting that up to 400 employees could be impacted. The move comes as Amazon’s leadership seeks to address One Medical’s operating losses and has asked the healthcare company to save an additional $100 million this year. One Medical aims to significantly reduce its fixed operating costs and the cost of each patient’s visit in the coming years. Amazon had previously agreed to acquire One Medical in a deal valued at around $3.9 billion, including net debt. These job cuts follow a series of reductions across various units within Amazon, including Buy with Prime, Audible, and Twitch. Despite the cuts, Lindsay emphasized that Amazon remains committed to hiring providers and investing in teams and technology to enhance access to high-quality care.
