Amazon Encourages Corporate Workers to Relocate for Office Return
Amazon has implemented a new return-to-office policy, requiring workers to be in the office three days a week. As part of this policy, the tech giant is asking some corporate employees to relocate to different cities.
While Amazon has confirmed the relocations, they have not provided specific details regarding the number of employees affected. However, Amazon spokesperson Brad Glasser stated that the company will offer relocation benefits and consider exceptions on a case-by-case basis.
In a prepared statement, Glasser highlighted the positive impact of increased in-person collaboration, energy, and connections among employees. He also mentioned that Amazon is actively working towards bringing more teams together in the same locations.
This move represents an escalation of Amazon’s efforts to bring workers back to the office. In February, the company introduced a policy requiring employees to be present in the office for three days a week, which led to protests by hundreds of corporate workers in Seattle.
Amazon CEO Andy Jassy explained that the decision to bring employees back was based on observations made during the pandemic. The company found that employees were more engaged and collaborative in person.
According to reports, Amazon employees who refuse to relocate near their team’s main offices are being given the option to find a new job within the company or leave through voluntary resignation. It is worth noting that Amazon has recently cut 27,000 jobs.
