Amazon MGM Studios Nears $15 Million Deal to Acquire Aubrey Plaza's 'My Old Ass' Contact Lens ComedyAmazon’s MGM Studios is reportedly in the final stages of acquiring Megan Park’s second film, “My Old Ass,” which features Aubrey Plaza and Maisy Stella. According to an insider, the deal is worth $15 million.

The plan for Amazon MGM Studios is to release the film widely in theaters across the United States and Canada, with international distribution yet to be determined. As with all of its titles, the movie will eventually find its home on Prime Video.

Produced by Margot Robbie’s LuckyChap, Tom Ackerley, and Josey McNamara in partnership with Steven Rales of Indian Paintbrush, “My Old Ass” had a sold-out world premiere screening at Utah’s Eccles Theatre on Saturday evening.

In her review of the film, TheWrap’s Ariana Martinez praised Megan Park’s sophomore feature and first film at Sundance. “My Old Ass” combines elements of YA journey and sci-fi fantasy, following 18-year-old Elliott (Maisy Stella) as she confronts her 39-year-old self (Aubrey Plaza) while transitioning into adulthood.

The movie stands out for its authentic portrayal of the dynamics between Elliott and her friends Ro (Kerrice Brooks) and Ruthie (Maddie Ziegler), as well as her brothers Max (Seth Isaac Johnson) and Spencer (Carter Trozzolo). Stella delivers a refreshing and realistic performance as a queer girl navigating relationships and embracing a carefree lifestyle.

“My Old Ass” marks the second collaboration between LuckyChap and Amazon MGM Studios, following the success of Emerald Fennell’s “Saltburn” last year. The biting social satire was distributed theatrically by MGM and grossed an impressive $20 million worldwide. After its streaming debut on Prime Video, it became one of the platform’s most-watched titles, receiving acclaim for its cast including Barry Keoghan, Jacob Elordi, Rosemund Pike, Carey Mulligan, and Richard E. Grant.

Megan Park’s directorial debut, “The Fallout,” starring Jenna Ortega, Maddie Ziegler, and Julie Bowen, garnered widespread critical acclaim when it was released on HBO Max in January 2022. The film, which Park also wrote, sparked significant discussion across streaming platforms and became one of the most talked-about direct-to-streaming movies of the previous year.

The deal for “My Old Ass” was facilitated by CAA Media Finance.

The news of Amazon MGM Studios’ acquisition of “My Old Ass” was first reported by Deadline.
