Abbi Jacobson, the creator of “A League of Their Own,” is speaking out against Amazon’s decision to cancel the show. The news broke on Friday that Prime Video has decided to scrap the previously announced second and final season of the series due to production delays caused by the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.
In response, Jacobson took to Instagram to express her frustration, calling the cancellation “bulls–t and cowardly.” However, she wanted to focus her post on the positive aspects of the show and the talented individuals involved in its creation. She expressed her pride in the series, which she described as filled with heart, soul, and value.
Jacobson also took the opportunity to thank the fans for their support and described her experience playing Carson Shaw as a rare and special thing in life.
“A League of Their Own” had been formally renewed for a final season in April, following its successful freshman season. The second season was planned as a four-episode limited series, half the length of the first season.
The show, a reinterpretation of the beloved 1992 film, follows the women who formed their own professional baseball league during World War II. It tackles important themes such as racism and the challenges faced by gay female baseball players.
The Season 1 finale now serves as the series finale, with the Rockford Peaches losing to the South Bend Blue Sox in the championship game. The finale also featured a cliffhanger twist, as Carson’s husband Charlie witnessed her passionate goodbye kiss with Greta.
Despite the cancellation, Jacobson’s heartfelt message shows her gratitude for the opportunity to create such a special show and her appreciation for everyone involved.
