Amazon’s MGM Studios is reportedly in the final stages of acquiring Megan Park’s second film, “My Old Ass,” which features Aubrey Plaza and Maisy Stella. According to an insider, the deal is worth $15 million.

The plan for Amazon MGM Studios is to give “My Old Ass” a wide theatrical release in the United States and Canada, while international territories are yet to be determined. Ultimately, the film will find its home on Prime Video, as is the case with all of Amazon’s titles.

Produced by Margot Robbie’s LuckyChap, Tom Ackerley, and Josey McNamara in partnership with Steven Rales of Indian Paintbrush, “My Old Ass” had a sold-out world premiere screening at Utah’s Eccles Theatre on Saturday evening.

In her review of the film, TheWrap’s Ariana Martinez praised Megan Park’s sophomore feature and first film at Sundance. “My Old Ass” combines elements of YA journey and sci-fi fantasy, following 18-year-old Elliott (Maisy Stella) as she confronts her 39-year-old self (Aubrey Plaza) on the cusp of adulthood.

Martinez commended the authenticity portrayed in “My Old Ass,” particularly in the dynamics between Elliott and her friends Ro (Kerrice Brooks) and Ruthie (Maddie Ziegler), as well as her brothers Max (Seth Isaac Johnson) and Spencer (Carter Trozzolo). Stella’s portrayal of a queer girl navigating life with charm and independence was also highlighted.

This collaboration between LuckyChap, Ackerley’s production banner, and Amazon MGM Studios marks their second major project together. Their previous collaboration, Emerald Fennell’s “Saltburn,” was a biting social satire that achieved success both theatrically and on Prime Video.

Megan Park’s directorial debut, “The Fallout,” starring Jenna Ortega, Maddie Ziegler, and Julie Bowen, received widespread critical acclaim upon its release on HBO Max in January 2022. The film, which Park also wrote, sparked significant discussion across streaming platforms.

The deal for “My Old Ass” was facilitated by CAA Media Finance, according to reports.
