Amazon is reportedly considering integrating the primary care services of One Medical, which it acquired earlier this year, into its Prime membership program. According to a report by Insider, Amazon is exploring the possibility of offering discounted access to One Medical’s primary care services for existing Prime members. This move is part of Amazon’s efforts to expand its subscription offerings, with potential options in the grocery sector as well.
Insider’s sources, described as “people familiar with the matter,” revealed that the idea of combining Prime and One Medical is currently being debated internally at Amazon. However, there are concerns that adding new healthcare or grocery benefits to the existing Prime program could increase the membership fee, potentially making it unaffordable for some users. On the other hand, launching too many standalone subscription programs might dilute the Prime brand, which has experienced a slowdown in growth recently.
In July, Amazon offered discounted One Medical memberships during its annual Prime Day sales event. The discounted price of $144 provided Prime members with 24/7 access to virtual care, online appointment scheduling, and prescription renewals, down from the regular yearly fee of $199.
Amir Dan Rubin, CEO of One Medical, announced in August that he plans to step down from his position later this year after serving for six years. He will be succeeded by Trent Green, who currently holds the role of One Medical’s COO.
Amazon’s Prime membership currently costs $14.99 per month or $139 per year. The potential integration of One Medical’s primary care services into Prime would further enhance the value proposition for Amazon’s subscribers.
