Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced the creation of a new team called “AWS Compute Services,” according to an internal email seen by Insider. This team will bring together various services, including Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) and serverless products like Lambda, into a single organization.
EC2 allows customers to easily scale their cloud usage on AWS using virtual servers, while Lambda and other serverless products enable customers to run their applications on the cloud without the need to manage servers.
The formation of the AWS Compute Services team coincides with the establishment of another team focused on assisting customers in utilizing generative-AI technology on the AWS cloud. This move reflects Amazon’s response to the growing demand for artificial intelligence capabilities. Deepak Singh, the vice president who previously oversaw AWS containers and serverless products, will lead this new AI organization.
In an email sent on May 25, David Brown, AWS’s vice president leading EC2 and head of the Compute Services organization, expressed optimism about the alignment and collaboration between the different teams. He believes that this change will enhance efficiency and deliver more value to customers.
As part of the restructuring, Holly Mesrobian, the vice president of serverless and compute, now reports directly to Brown. She continues to oversee services such as the Elastic Container Service, Lambda, and the serverless computing fabric. Additionally, Barry Cooks, the vice president responsible for the Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service, now reports to Brown.
Amazon has not provided any further comments on this development.
